GPX-5 wins Dame Award

The GPX-5 power plant has been announced the winner within the Machinery, Mechanical and Electrical Systems section of The DAME Awards at METS 2009 (Marine Equipment Trade Show).

The panel of independent judges applauded the innovations of the GPX-5, which is the world's first true hybrid solution for all onboard 'mains' power requirements. The unit cleverly combines a generator, inverter and battery charger with shore power to provide 'on demand' mains power the moment it is required, just like at home. The innovative system senses the switching on of devices with high start up loads, such as air conditioning or a microwave. For the first 30 seconds, the inverter powers the load completely from the batteries whilst the generator is fired up to take over.

Commenting on the award, Marc Persoon, Mastervolt's Marketing Manager said, "The DAME Awards are now recognised as the world's leading design competition for new marine equipment and accessories, so we are delighted that our product has received this accolade for its ground-breaking technology. At Mastervolt, we have a continuous focus on industrial design, developing hi-tech materials to not only make smaller and lighter products, but also to easily withstand the extremes of the marine environment. We're passionate about the seamless integration of software and power electronics, all packaged in tough outer casings that have a pleasing and purposeful design."
