On 5 July 2012, China successfully completed the building of its first solar powered boat. The boat, a catamaran named was built in Xiamen and is powered by the Mastervolt E-Propulsion system.

The boat is 15m long, 6m wide and displaces 13 tons. The capacity of the batteries are 48V/800Ah and are completely charged by a solar panel which is installed on top of the boat.

Powered by a twin set of Mastervolt DriveMaster 7.5KW, the boat can reach a top speed of 7 knots. It can sail 8 to 10 hours at a speed of 4 knots thanks to the highly efficient Mastervolt E-Propulsion system.

With support of Mastervolt China, and the Mastervolt head office in Amsterdam, the boat was successfully tested over a period of 10 days. The results were all positive and the performance of the Mastervolt E-Propulsion system resulted in a very, smooth performance. Throughout all the days of testing, the only power source was that provided directly from the sun.
