Mastervolt sponsors The Frisian Solar Challenge
MASTERVOLT SPONSORS THE FRISIAN SOLAR CHALLENGE
Mastervolt, the Dutch-based manufacturer of high-quality electrical power products, has been named as the main sponsor for the Frisian Solar Challenge 2010, which begins on Sunday 4th July.
The Frisian Solar Challenge is run every two years and is now the largest sustainable energy event in the Netherlands, attracting a field of young competitors/students from all over the world to race in boats powered exclusively by solar energy, many of which use inverters and electrical propulsion units developed by Mastervolt.
Beginning with a trial run on Sunday 4th July along the canals of Leeuwarden, where the Challenge will also finish, the competitors will race over the route of the famous Elfstedentocht (Eleven Cities Tour) ice skating race through the province of Friesland. The 220km race, which visits each of the 11 cities, will take competitors six days.
Participants are divided into three classes: the Top Class and two Challenge Classes for single-handed and double-handed boats.
The programme for the race is:
4th July: Energy Sunday, Leeuwarden
5th July: Leeuwarden – Sloten
6th July: Sloten – Bolsward
7th July: Rest day
8th July: Bolsward – Franeker
9th July: Franeker – Dokkum
10th July: Dokkum – Leeuwarden
