MasterBus and CZone come together

Since the integration of Mastervolt into the Marine division of Actuant Electrical the engineers at Mastervolt headquarters inAmsterdamand the BEP engineering team inNew Zealandhave been busy working together to provide a seamless connection between the two companies networked technologies into one system.

Both companies have extensive CAN based networked systems made up of Digital Switching, Systems Monitoring and Power Conversion devices. "Bringing the CZone and MasterBus systems together has been a relatively easy task", says Jarrod Sagar, Global Product manager for Digital Switching at BEP, "as both companies had the same original philosophy for these systems, which was to bring all the points of control and monitoring of the on board systems onto one intuitive display, a central point and seamless automation simplifies boat use for the user."

The engineering teams have developed ‘CZoneMasterBusBridge’ as the link between the MasterBus and CZone systems. The Bridge is a simple plug-in unit that reads both protocols and allows units from each manufacturer, and others such as Simrad that use BEP’s NMEA2000, to become fully compatible. This means that components such as pumps, alarms, battery chargers and monitors can be controlled from a single touch screen.

"The popular MasterShunt battery monitor and ChargeMaster battery charger can now be connected to a BEP marine network, which is based on NMEA2000," explained Marc Persoon, Mastervolt’s marketing manager. "As a result, the monitoring and control of the battery charger can now be done via the CZone display or other compatible display such as the multi-function marine navigation screens from Simrad andB&G. TheCZoneMasterBusBridge has been developed to connect two great systems together, and bring you the best of both worlds."

As with all Mastervolt products, the Bridge is made from robust, corrosion resistant materials. The compact unit has strategically-placed screw holes allowing it to be attached to any convenient surface. Two simple 5-pin universal sockets facilitate the quick and simple connection of the two network cables, and an LED indicator shows the network status.

"By connecting the Bridge into an existing system, it will allow a boat owner to expand a boat’s systems without having to stick with just one manufacturer," Persoon stated. "This is just one example of the benefits of becoming part of an organization such as Actuant, where the pooling of expertise reaps huge benefits for the customer. Furthermore, the Bridge gives our OEMS a complete simple package: a networked system made up of the worlds best power conversion and digital switching products."

TheCZoneMasterBusBridgewere displayed at IBEX and METS, and is due for release in the first quarter of 2012. The bridge will include all the necessary connector cables and have a 2-year warranty.

Unique training program for chinese OEM market

Sunny Sun, Director of PSS, and Erik van Wilsum Commercial Manager (APAC & ME regions) for Mastervolt organized a 4 day professional product training and workshop for the Chinese OEM market and its dealer network. A large group of engineers and purchasers from different yards participated in this unique training for China.

The training consisted of an overview of the complete product portfolio and also technical training and practical interaction with the products. The presentations and workshops were conducted in the Chinese language, in order to enhance the understanding of all the benefits, the installation options and quality differences. This is something Mastervolt would not have been able to achieve without PSS as a local partner.

Sunny Sun commented; "Normally a training of this magnitude is not possible in China because of the simple fact that many OEM yards will not pay the participants if they do not work at the yard and participants would need to pay for the training costs themselves." However, PSS and Mastervolt have worked together to organise these training sessions for the first time, as they have convinced OEM yards to understand the system approach of the Mastervolt product range and the need of optimizing service and after sales.

Mastervolt’s Erik van Wilsum said; "This training is the next step in the close cooperation between PSS and the OEM yards inChina. OEM yards start to understand the need for quality power products from a worldwide supplier with a worldwide service network."

The training sessions have focused on the central region ofChina, with more planned for the North and South regions.

New office for Mastervolt France

Present inFrancefor 15 years, Mastervolt, leading supplier of electrical power solutions to the worldwide marine, mobile and solar markets, has recently moved into new premises that are located in a large business centre in Mouans Sartoux. Still in theCannesarea, on the French Riviera, the French team wished to remain close to their marine customers, but made the move due to needed expansion of their working and warehousing space.

Stuart Ingram, Director of Mastervolt France, explained, "The new premises now offer a 350m² building, with modern training and service facilities and larger storage areas at our disposal. The move allows the whole team to work in a more professional environment and we now plan to offer regular training courses for installers and customers in both the marine and solar business."

In addition to the new offices, MastervoltFrancehas also recently begun to work with Vidal Diffusion Marine (VDM) as the new distributor for Mastervolt products, specialising in the electric-propulsion range. Chosen for their high level of customer service, VDM is an active existing distributor of technical parts for the marine industry with a range including mechanical equipment linked to e-propulsion systems. This makes them a perfect choice for Mastervolt and their growing e-propulsion portfolio and other product ranges.

Situated nearToulonin the south ofFrance, VDM is in an ideal location to work closely with Mastervolt as well as being in close proximity to the large marine customer base in the south. Furthermore, VDM’s nationwide network of installers is able to service all areas of France.

New Nordic Sales Manager appointed

Chris Yellow will fulfil the role of Sales Manager Nordic for Actuant Electrical’s marine and mobile markets and his territories includeIceland,Norway,Denmark,Sweden, Baltic States,Finlandand theRussian Federation. Chris will be looking after the Actuant product groups of Mastervolt, BEP Marine and Marinco in the Actuant Electrical portfolio.

Previously working as part of the European sales team for Marinco, Chris steps into the new management role representing the Actuant Electrical group, with a growing business value in the Nordic territory. Chris has an existing knowledgeable background to the Actuant Electrical product groups having played a key part in the execution of Marinco’s European distribution strategy that he will continue to contribute to.

Commenting on the new appointment, Sales Leader Bert Jansen said, "I am very happy to announce Chris’ promotion to Sales Manager Nordic. The Dutch-based company Mastervolt, a market leader in the world of ‘off-grid’ electrical power systems since its formation in 1991, became a subsidiary of US diversified industrial Actuant Corporation at the end of 2010. Complete portfolio of stylish shore connections

Mastervolt developed a complete range of shore connection cables and all required accessories. The new range is based on the popular CE connector, which is a so-called pin and sleeve connection. This new range is an extension of the existing Mastervolt twist and lock range.

The new range of shore connections comes in power ratings of 16A and 32A and different lengths of cables. In addition converter cables are available as well as extension cables and Y-splitters. All connections cables have moulded waterproof connection designed to survive the harsh marine environment. No salt water will corrode the connection and cause unreliable shore connections. A power indication LED will give you instant feedback on the availability of shore power.

The yacht mounted inlets are manufactured from high grade stainless steel (316) and polished. The quick lock mechanism allows opening even by cold hands after a winter trip. The inlet can be easily mounted by one person, which helps to speed up installation for the aftermarket and for OEM boatyards.

The specially designed power cable is ribbed to prevent it from rolling around on the deck or pontoon. This further enhances the safety features of the shore power connections as it reduces the risk of a person falling over if the cable is stood on as it does not roll around whilst laying on the deck,. Furthermore, the design makes it easier to butterfly the cable after use, and the ribs mean that cable stays cleaner due to the smaller direct contact area.

"The shore power cable is critical to a comfortable experience on board when in a harbour with AC power available," said Marc Persoon, Mastervolt’s Marketing Manager. "As with every other product we have listened carefully to our customers and based on that feedback we started a new development. We made improvements in many areas from installation, ease of use to durability. On top of all that we made this a real Mastervolt product by look and feel."

Ideal performance onboard Camper Volvo Open 70

Following the announcement of the exciting partnership between Mastervolt, the Dutch-based manufacturer of premium electrical systems, and Emirates Team New Zealand, one of the strongest sailing teams in the world, Mastervolt has been working alongside the team in their position as Exclusive Team Supplier of batteries for the CAMPER project for the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race to ensure the yacht is race ready and fully equipped with the best battery and electrical systems for the gruelling round the world challenge beginning in October.

Prior to the Volvo Ocean Race start, Emirates Team NewZealandand the crew of CAMPER have completed more than 8000 nautical miles onboard the Volvo Open 70, including their 2000 mile race qualifying sail. This time and mileage on the water was invaluable for testing all the equipment onboard in preparation for the race. Mastervolt supplied CAMPER with a wide range of its technical products, including Mastervolt Li-Ion 24/160 batteries, MasterShunt 500, MasterView Monitor, a ChargeMaster 24/30 battery charger and Alpha Pro 24V regulator, amongst other alternator controllers and other system components.

Commenting on the performance of the Mastervolt kit, Greg Lewis, the CAMPER with Emirates Team NewZealandelectronics engineer, said; "A lot of the distance sailed so far has been in extreme weather and conditions – and our bank of Mastervolt Lithium-Ion batteries performs very well. The bank of five 160ah batteries can run the yacht’s onboard systems for nearly four full days before charging is required. The MasterBus system with the MasterView display is very easy to use. We can monitor the entire system from the navigation station. It gives us the Amp/Hours remaining and percent of battery charge."

Mastervolt is also proving to be an integral part of the team when it comes to speed and performance onboard CAMPER, as Mastervolt batteries, fitted in a watertight box and strapped with webbing and Spectra lashing, power the key DC hydraulic system for fine tuning the canting keel.

PodMaster range wins the PBO Green Awards 2011

Mastervolt has won Practical Boat Owner magazine’s Green Awards that recognise marine businesses who have taken steps to reduce the environmental impact of leisure boating and make the industry more sustainable.

Winning the Product Category in the PBO Green Awards, the Mastervolt PodMaster is a highly efficient external electric drive and regeneration system where a powerful electric motor is encased in a torpedo-shaped pod attached to the underside of the hull. The pods can be steered to provide highly efficient directional thrust, making all vessels highly manoeuvrable. Another big advantage is that with no conventional drive shafts, gearboxes or engine couplings to align, the electrical power source can be located virtually anywhere on board.

The PodMaster was introduced to the Mastervolt range after Mastervolt acquired the leading Dutch electric propulsion specialist Bellmann in November 2009, and began to marry its complete power management expertise to Bellmann’s cutting-edge electrical drives.

Marc Persoon, Marketing Manager of Mastervolt, said, "We are delighted to receive the PBO Green Award as recognition of the progress we are making in becoming a more environmentally friendly company and completely endorse PBO’s efforts in raising the importance of ‘greener boating’ to the leisure boating market."

The PodMaster is now available in a power range from 2kW to 10kW, which can effectively replace a combustion engine from 3hp to 36hp. Since Mastervolt specialises in every aspect of a boat’s power management system, with every component totally compatible and ‘hybrid ready’, the possibilities for a self-contained drive system are almost endless.

The larger PodMaster units also double as regenerators, so when a yacht is under sail, the torque in the free-wheeling propeller is harnessed to recharge the batteries. When supplemented by solar panels and/or a wind generator, and with the recharging efficiency optimised by the MasterBus system, a PodMaster-equipped boat could be virtually self-refuelling.

However, for yachts where maximum speed under sail is essential, a folding propeller version is available. This can also be coupled to the SailMaster series, where the electric motor is housed inside the hull, with just a slim saildrive leg protruding into the water.

Motorboats can fit single or twin PodMasters, either fixed before a rudder, or fully directional. The steerable versions can be linked to the main wheel, or steered independently. When angled at 90 degrees, for example, the PodMaster effectively doubles as a stern thruster. It can also be fitted as an auxiliary drive or trolling motor for a single-engine powerboat.

For naval architects, the PodMaster provides the opportunity to design a boat around the requirements of the accommodation, without the need to house a large inboard engine. Cooled by the surrounding water, the PodMaster is maintenance-free apart from the usual anode change.

"We’re really excited at the success of the PodMaster," said Marc Persoon, Mastervolt’s Marketing Manager. "It opens up so many possibilities for boat builders and boat restorers, freeing up internal space and allowing for silent, fuel-efficient propulsion from affordable and renewable sources. Mastervolt’s acquisition of Bellmann has led to a highly productive merging of expertise, and has allowed us to really push the envelope of highly efficient, easily installed electrical propulsion. We’re also actively developing even more powerful units for the future, all designed around Mastervolt’s extensive range of CAN-bus controlled power management systems."

Prices for the PodMaster range from £4,000 - £10,000 ex VAT, depending on specification and power rating. The package includes the monitoring panel and associated wiring, and the ‘plug and play’ cables between the battery, the control unit and the motor. Only the joystick controller is excluded from the package price due to the wide range of options. The rest of the system can be built from Mastervolt’s range of Lithium-ion or Gel batteries and intelligent battery chargers, all interconnected with the single cable Masterbus communication network.

New distributor: Technautic

Mastervolt, the leading supplier of electrical power solutions to the worldwide marine, mobile and solar markets, has added a new distributor to its global network – Technautic B.V. The addition of Technautic further increases Mastervolt’s presence in The Netherlands, as they join existing company Cuno Marine Supplies as distributors for Mastervolt equipment.

Technautic is an existing wholesaler for marine equipment, including bow thrusters and navigation equipment making them ideal partners for Mastervolt and their large range of marine powered electronics and e-propulsion systems. Acting as an intermediate between Mastervolt and the retailer, installers and ship yards, Technautic will be important in reaching even more customers and the aftermarket for Mastervolt in The Netherlands through their existing extensive network of retailers.

Another element to Technautic’s appointment with Mastervolt will be in a training role where they will provide product training to help retailers successfully promote and sell Mastervolt equipment, as well as passing this information on to the end user.

Free tours and demonstrations at Hiswa boat show 2011

If you have an interest in electrical propulsion, then hurry down to the HISWA TE WATER Boat Show, between 6 – 11 September 2011 at the Marina Seaport Ijmuiden, in The Netherlands. Mastervolt has positioned the e-powered Dutch sloep in the harbour , so your insight into the benefits of Mastervolt systems can culminate with a practical demonstration of just how powerful, efficient and silent an e-drive can be. Mastervolt has been carrying out a great deal of research in making its entire range of electrical systems hybrid capable, and setting industry standards for more e-power installations in production boats. The company was also the pioneer of the 12V and 24V Lithium-Ion marine battery, which is ideally suited to deep-cycle applications such as propulsion.

Mastervolt team up with America's Cup Race Management

Mastervolt is proud to announce a new agreement with the America’s Cup Race Management (ACRM) for the 34^thAmerica’s Cup race in 2013. Dave Powys, Head of Boat Procurement & Fleet Management for ACRM and Mastervolt’s Commercial Manager for APAC & ME, Erik Van Wilsum, finalised the agreement involving the electrical design and equipment supply for the America’s Cup support vessels being built in Holland, Portugal, China and Malaysia.

These support vessels will be deployed for different tasks during the World Series Events, the Louis Vuitton Cup and theAmerica’s Cup AC34 Finals, including supplying live, on the water television broadcast during racing. With the new high performance and high speed multihulls being used inAmerica’s Cup racing, this is a big challenge to keep up with all the action. Extreme Ribs inHollandhas been tasked with building two new special, lightweight, high performance 40ft catamaran support vessels that will be fitted with a gyro-mounted television camera for this purpose, and Mastervolt will be working with them and the ACRM to ensure the electrical power requirements are fulfilled.

The project is being coordinated between Dave Powys and Erik Van Wilsum through the Mastervolt Head Office in Amsterdam, since the 26 support vessels are being built in different regions of the world and need to operate in both North America and Europe each having different voltages which makes the design more challenging. Dave Powys of the ACRM commented; "The main reason for the cooperation is the high quality and reliability of the Mastervolt products combined with the worldwide service network." Both companies are looking forward to the end result and high performance support vessels in 2013.

Series Hybrid is the future

On Stand G118 at the Southampton Boat Show 2011

Mastervolt, the Dutch-based electrical specialist, is continuing its mission to develop the most efficient and powerful range of marine electric and hybrid drives available, with new ‘series’ systems at the forefront of ongoing research.

‘Series’ hybrids use a battery bank topped up by a small, remote generator to provide power to an electric motor. The motor can be mounted either in an underwater pod (PodMaster) installed on a saildrive (SailMaster) or connected directly to a drive shaft (DriveMaster).

Because the generator can be housed almost anywhere on board, this allows a huge range of design and installation opportunities. The real advantage of a series hybrid is that it overcomes the ‘range anxiety’ associated with battery-powered boats. You can cruise silently all day, knowing that if your batteries run too low, you can fire up the generator to extend the range. The batteries can then be fully replenished from shore power when the boat is berthed.

Mastervolt has always been a complete ‘one stop shop’ for self-sufficient power systems. Since acquiring the leading propulsion experts, Bellmann, in November 2009, the company has made giant strides in the entire field of hybrid and full electrical drives.

Key to the latest developments is the increasing ability to recharge the batteries from the prop shaft, either when under power from an inboard combustion engine, or from a freewheeling propeller when under sail. In fact, under ideal sailing conditions, it is quite possible for a yacht to regenerate all of its propulsive and hotel loads from its propeller alone. Currently Mastervolt’s e-power applications fall into three main categories: full electric, parallel hybrid and series hybrid.

Full Electric installations rely entirely on battery power, which include anything from Mastervolt’s slim-case AGM types, or gel right through to its unique deep-cycle Lithium Ion. The motors themselves typically range in power from 2.0kW (3hp) to 20kW (30hp), with customer specific motors up to 65kW (97.5hp). Mastervolt’s intelligent control, monitoring and recharging systems ensure that every amp is used as efficiently as possible.

In parallel hybrid installations, the main engine is the primary source of propulsion, yet a belt also connects an electric motor to the propeller shaft. Due to the high torque of the electric motor and a reduction ratio to suit the propeller, these systems are primarily in applications for a few hours of silent cruising with a high degree of manoeuvrability. They also double as an emergency drive if the main engine fails.

Recent developments include new additions to the HybridMaster Ultra range, providing a 5-model line up from 3.5kW (5.2hp) to 20kW (30hp). The brushless 48V or 96V synchronous motors require virtually no maintenance, and when being spun by the main engine can silently generate between 60A to 200A to quickly replenish the batteries.

The most exciting developments, however, are in the series hybrid range, where Mastervolt’s complimentary technology is providing a wide range of options. For example, power can come from a variable-speed diesel generator, an inverter and an intelligent battery charger, all of which work together to optimise and distribute the available energy.

Mastervolt is currently expanding the size range at which full electric and hybrid installations will be effective, making hybrid available for much larger craft. The PodMaster drives are being increased into the 13.5 – 17m (45-56ft) sailboat range, with the SailMaster models expanded to straddle 5.4m – 11.4m (18ft to 38ft) sector. Meanwhile, the new series hybrids are being targeted at the 8.4m-17m (28ft – 56ft) range for yachts, and the 8.4m-14.4m (28ft – 48ft) range for motor cruisers.

"For some larger yachts, hybrid is definitely the way forward," said Marc Persoon, Mastervolt’s Marketing Manager. "For example, the HybridMaster Ultra allows you to benefit from both worlds, electric propulsion for short to medium distances, and Diesel for extended distances. For sailing yachts, regeneration from a freewheeling propeller is zero-emission energy, which is intelligently harnessed by the Mastervolt control systems. At the other side our series hybrids solutions are gaining a lot of interest from boat designers, as they enhance the interior design by allowing greater flexibility in power component locations.

Looking to the future, CEO Paul Kenninck remarked, "It is fair to say that in a few years, rather than decades, electric boats will have transformed the marine industry. There is already a lot of government legislation promoting environmentally friendly boating. Electric boats are very cost effective to run, particularly with the price of oil increasing. There is no doubt that, just like hybrid cars, electric boats will take off. The stakes are high for the marine industry."

Mastervolt launches new 12-volt Lithium-Ion battery

Leading electrical specialist, Mastervolt, is proud to announce the launch of a 12-volt Lithium-Ion marine battery, packaging the lightweight cells into the same case as its popular 24-volt sister.

The new battery has been in development for some time as part of Mastervolt’s ongoing research within the EU’s HYMAR (Hybrid Marine) initiative. Lithium-Ion technology has long been the material of choice for portable electronic items due to its light weight (a third that of water) combined with long life, no memory effect and deep cycle capabilities. Mastervolt was the first company to bring a full size 24-volt version to the marine market, and due to this Award-winning battery’s success, a 12-volt version has now also been released. This allows boat owners to have the option of 12-volt or 24-volt Lithium-Ion performance with the same footprint, which is a third of the size and weight of an equivalent lead-acid battery for the same 4.3 kWh of power.

The steady rise in demand for Lithium-Ion, most notably in hybrid propulsion systems, has also led to a steady lowering of prices, now down 20% from the original launch price. For ease of installation, the new 12-volt battery is the same ergonomically designed case, which safely packages the advanced cell balancing technology and allows the battery to be seamlessly connected to Mastervolt’s intelligent battery charging system.

The stylish and robust case, in distinctive green Mastervolt livery, also has large carrying handles, and sophisticated electronics to allow ultra-fast charging and discharging. The real beauty of Lithium-Ion, apart from its light weight, is that it can be deep cycled by 80% capacity for up to 2,000 cycles without harming its long lifespan.

"We have had a huge amount of interest in Lithium-Ion since it was launched in 2008," said Marketing Manager Marc Persoon. "The new 12-volt version was originally in a smaller casing during the prototyping, but we decided to keep the footprint the same as the 24-volt model and double the capacity. This makes it easier for production builders to make provision for Lithium- Ion systems in new builds. The price is also coming down due to increased demand. Even so, we are seeing a great take up for these ultra-safe batteries, especially in blue water yachts that need regular deep cycling for hotel loads, but with three times the lifespan of ordinary lead-acid batteries. The connectivity with the rest of the yacht’s systems, through the MasterBus network which includes the MasterView monitoring screens, is also a huge selling point. We are convinced that Lithium-Ion is the future for battery technology, especially with the deep-cycle needs of propulsion."

Prices for the 12-Volt Lithium-Ion battery now start at £4225.00 excluding VAT.

Gulf Craft uses Digital Switching system for Oryx 36

The Middle East’s and Asia’s leading producer of luxury fiberglass motoryachts, Gulf Craft, has appointed Mastervolt, the market leader in onboard power supply systems to provide the Digital Switching control system for the Oryx 36 sport cruiser, which is on display at the Dubai International Boat Show.

Mastervolt’s Digital Switching system enables the owner of the boat to control the entire electrical system, including all lights, pumps, fridges, sound systems, generators and so on, from anywhere on board. They can even send the boat an SMS text message or access the system from their laptop at home to turn equipment on or off remotely. The Digital Switching system makes use of Mastervolt’s MasterBus one cable system to reduce required wiring to a minimum and to make connectivity and setting up particularly easy. This in turn produces significant savings in both weight and cost.

The iconic Oryx 36 from Gulf Craft is a 36’10" (11.23m) motor boat that fully benefits from the Mastervolt Digital Switching as power can be controlled from any position on the boat, as well as from a central control console, making the Oryx 36 even more luxurious for all on board. The Digital Switching provides full power information at a glance and can operate ‘smart alarm’ functions if required. A full system integration and energy management, ensuring the best balance between power generation, storage and consumption is also offered. For example, the generator can be set to start automatically if it’s needed when the air conditioning is turned on. Light levels can also be adjusted without the need for individual dimmer controls, making life aboard that much more convenient.

Mastervolt becomes a team supplier to CAMPER with Team New Zealand

Mastervolt, the Dutch-based manufacturer of premium electrical systems, is delighted to announce an exciting new partnership with Team New Zealand (with Enertec Marine Systems), one of the strongest sailing teams in the world. Mastervolt has been appointed as Exclusive Team Supplier of batteries for the CAMPER project for the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race.

Since the America’s Cup in 2007, Team New Zealand has been running three exciting projects to keep the team active and diversified. The team campaigned a TP52 in the 2009 and 2010 Audi MedCup Series, winning the season championship in both years.

The Louis Vuitton Pacific Series was created by the team in 2009, a match race event, which proved so popular it was expanded to four events as the Louis Vuitton Trophy. Team New Zealand won the 2009 regatta and three of the four LVT events. Most recently, the team partnered with Camper, a Spanish international footwear brand, to design, build and campaign an entry in the Volvo Ocean Race, which starts in late October.

As part of its investment, Mastervolt will be supplying a range of its technical products for the race team, including Mastervolt Li-Ion 24/160 batteries, MasterShunt 500, MasterView Monitor, a ChargeMaster 24/30 battery charger and Alpha Pro 24V regulator, amongst other alternator controllers and other system components. All these items will be on board the Camper Volvo Ocean Racing Boat.

Two new 'Powerbook' guides.

Mastervolt, the market leader in marine electrical power systems that provide ‘the power to be independent’, has published two new ‘Powerbooks’ to help its customers select the right equipment and design complete electrical power management systems for their boats. The Powerbooks are comprehensive resources for boat owners, acting as ‘how to’ manuals for designing systems and detailed catalogues of all Mastervolt products. They are currently available in English and Dutch, with several other language versions, such as French and German, already in preparation.

In addition to the printed Powerbooks, which can be obtained by post or by collection from Mastervolt stands at boating exhibitions, online versions can be read swiftly from Mastervolt’s website www.mastervolt.com/powerbook.

The 152 page Marine Systems Powerbook provides a comprehensive, step by step guide to designing and specifying a complete electrical power management system for motorboats, sailing craft and catamarans. Within each of those categories, the information is broken down into what is required when undertaking mainly day trips, weekends away or while cruising to faraway destinations.

Each section begins with an analysis of typical ‘boaters’ requirements on an average boat being used for each purpose, and providing an easy guide to calculating total power consumption. The Powerbook then uses diagrams, photographs and clear text to guide the reader through a ‘best system’ to take care of these power requirements, including choice of batteries, chargers/inverters, monitoring power consumption and linking it all together with a Mastervolt MasterBus. Each section is completed with a guide to incorporating an electric motor to power the vessel, which is an area of high growth and interest amongst today’s boat owners and one in which Mastervolt again leads the way.

With the best system for each type of boat and main use now defined, the second fully illustrated 100 page powerbook, the Marine Products Powerbook, can be referred to for full details of each individual item. Clear descriptions, diagrams and explanations precede complete details and side by side comparison tables.
