Our 'Meet the Distributor' posts showcases our partners and the vital work they do. This time we head to the sunny shorelines of Phuket to meet Damian Barrett from Electrical Marine Co Ltd who represent Mastervolt in Thailand.

Tell us a little more about yourself and Electrical Marine and how you became to be a Mastervolt distributor?

"I am an English qualified and experienced electrical engineer and I established Electrical Marine on Phuket in 1989 and we now service the whole of Thailand. I had liked the Mastervolt brand for some time and was interested in working with Mastervolt more closely, but it was just after the Singapore Boat Show in 1999 that I met the team and set up as a distributor."

What are the key Mastervolt products you sell?

"We sell mainly into both the commercial and recreational marine markets in Thailand. The main products are the Mass battery chargers, Combi’s and, of course, batteries. More recently, we have seen an increase in sales of the digital switching systems using CZone and Mastervolt products."

What is your favourite thing about selling Mastervolt products, what do you like about Mastervolt and the Power Products family?

"It is like being a part of a big family working together to help the end users. The technical support I receive as a distributor is second to none."

What has been the biggest change or development for you, especially with the recent advances in technology used in power electronics?

"More customers are looking to have an all-integrated approach to their boating so we are seeing more customers asking about digital switching system and monitoring systems. CZone greatly simplifies the installation of electric systems and its partnership with Mastervolt enables us as to offer further integrated packages."

How have you and your team had to adapt to be able to design, install and support these technical systems?

"Switching over to CZone and Mastervolt systems has required my team and I to learn a new way of programming. We have been attending training both in Amsterdam at Mastervolt HQ and in New Zealand with CZone, as this is really the only way any company can stay ahead of the game. We would like to have more webinars in the future, so we can continue to develop our knowledge."

Where do you see the future of power electronics going in the next 5 years? Any trends that your customers should be on the lookout for?

"I personally foresee the switch over to electric powered yachts with solar and wind as the charging source. I think the automotive industry has already made this shift and will only grow and we will start to see this more within the marine industry. Electric propulsion is already available and as boaters aim to improve their carbon footprint, I expect this to grow more."
